Why risk a new vaccine on children?
Transcript of Why risk a new vaccine on children?
So it is true that children, in the most part, either experience no symptoms or very mild symptoms like any other viral respiratory infection when they get COVID illness.
But a small proportion of children can go on to experience more severe disease, particularly children who have underlying chronic medical conditions.
Or they may have other conditions such as obesity or Down Syndrome or cerebral palsy, and it's really important that we protect those children and is also a small proportion of children that can go on to experience chronic or lingering symptoms after COVID infection called Long COVID.
And so altogether, it's really important that we directly protect kids from getting COVID infection, as well as reducing their risk from transmitting COVID to adults, particularly vulnerable adults, and also making sure that they can be at school with their friends and not have to go back to home school and home learning.
